Marcia Dawood

Hi everyone and welcome back to the Angel Next Door podcast. I'm your host, Marcia Dawood, and between the holidays and what felt like a very long month of January and so many other things going on in the world, I was worried that people may have missed some of the recent topics on the podcast. So I'm recording this short Minutes with Marcia episode to cover some of the key takeaways from my chats with three incredible guests, Sally Bolter, Wendy Ryan and Cammie and Sandy from the Money Tales podcasts. So let's jump in. Sally Bolter, in case you missed it so we've talked about on the podcast before about using philanthropic capital for startup investing, but we hadn't yet talked to Sally Bolter of impact Assets and she broke down how donor advised funds or dafs work and she was making it clear that they're a great way to give, invest and make a difference all at once. You may have heard me talk before about the Next Wave Impact fund. Well, there was a group of people that wanted to invest in the fund but didn't meet the accredited investor definition. So 10 of them each contributed just $5,000 into a donor advised fund, a DAF, using that money to invest in the fund, which then went to invest in 15 different impact startup companies.

The best part? The returns go back to the fund so that they can reinvest or donate more. This is a powerful way to prove that meaningful investing isn't just for the ultra wealthy. So in case you missed it, make sure you go back and listen to the episode with Sally Bolter Wendy Ryan on leadership and equitable investment. Another episode to highlight was my conversation with Wendy Ryan. She's got some serious wisdom when it comes to leadership and investing with purpose. Wendy believes leadership isn't about control, but about clarity and collaboration. She shared her Learn Lead Lift framework. This is her book, which is all about being adaptable and forward thinking.

We also talked about generational wealth and why it's so important to level the playing field when it comes to getting funding. One thing Wendy really drove home is that when we invest in diverse founders, it's not just about doing the right thing. It actually benefits everyone. And thanks to technology, more people now have access to startup investing, which is a huge shift in the right direction. So make sure to pick up Wendy's book, Learn Lead Lift. And finally, I wanted to highlight, in case you missed it, my conversation with Cammie and Sandy from the Money Tales podcast. And we talked about something that we all deal with, our relationship with money. These two are on A Mission to Make Money Conversations Normal, Not Stressful we talked about how our early experiences shape our money beliefs and how we can shift those beliefs to work in our favor.

Marcia Dawood

Sandy explained about a scarcity mindset and the idea that there's never enough and how that can hold us back financially. But the good news? It's something we can change. Self awareness and rewriting our internal money scripts can make a huge difference. Cami shared how looking at money is a tool rather than a measure of success and can lead to better financial decisions. And both of them stress something really important. It's okay to admit that you don't know being open about money can actually lead to smarter choices and less stress. So there you have it. A quick recap of three powerful conversations.

Marcia Dawood

We talked about using philanthropy for impact with Sally, creating a more inclusive investment landscape with Wendy, and shifting our money mindsets with Cammie and Sandy. And that last topic, It's a big focus for me lately because here's the thing. Money is not the enemy or the end goal. It's a resource. One that gives us options, fuels impact, and helps us live with purpose. But so many struggle with limiting beliefs around money. They keep us stuck in scarcity thinking. By shifting your mindset, overcoming old narratives, and aligning your finances with your values, you can start making decisions with confidence and create financial fluidity, the ability to adapt, grow and use your wealth intentionally to build a life and a world that truly reflects what matters most to you.

Marcia Dawood

This is something I'm going to be diving into even more in upcoming episodes, so stay tuned. If any of these topics sparked something for you, go back and listen to the full episodes. I promise they're worth it. And as always, if you enjoy the podcast, please be sure to subscribe, share it with a friend, give a five star rating and keep the conversation going. Thanks for listening. Until next time, keep investing with purpose.
